5th Grade Teachers

Lydia Tang - 5TH GRADE TEACHER

Greetings to All!

I am very happy to join the amazing CIS family this fall. As many of you know, Aimee Yu recently gave birth to a baby, and will be returning back to CIS in January. While she is raising her newborn, I will be leading English instruction for her 1st graders and Ms. Ma’s second graders. As I take on this role, I will be working closely with the first and second grade team, who have already been incredibly supportive to helping me get on board for the school year. I can already see and feel the passion and that the entire team of teachers, staff and parents at CIS have for this school community, and I am very grateful to be a part of it all. There is no doubt in my mind that CIS is a special place to learn and grow, and as the school year unfolds, I look forward to meeting and getting to know many of you!

Prior to coming to CIS, I was a third grade teacher at Longfellow Elementary during the first half of the 2015-2016 school year, as I was covering for a teacher who was on maternity leave. For the second half of the school year, I took the time to be a substitute teacher in classrooms around the city. Then over the summer, I was a fourth and fifth grade teacher for the YMCA in Chinatown. Every opportunity I had to work with kids has been an adventure, and has left me more passionate to be an educator.

To share with you a little bit about me, I enjoy spending time with family and friends when I am not working, as well as dragon boating with my teammates on Lake Merced. My favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and it would be extraordinary to get to travel to New Zealand one day. In the meantime, I love exploring the California Coast. There is so much beauty around us, and I feel very thankful to be able to call the Bay Area my home.

Hong Xin Jiang - 5th Grade Teacher

Hello, CIS friends and parents. My name is Hong Xin Jiang, and I am a new 5th grade Chinese teacher at Chinese Immersion School. I was born and raised in Guangdong, China, and I immigrated to the United States with my family 11 years ago. I am fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

In 2015, I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and a minor in Education. In addition, I am getting a bilingual teaching credential at San Francisco State University. Before joining the CIS family, I worked closely with different grade levels students from elementary to high school at several different private and public schools in San Francisco. Through my work experience, I have found out that I enjoy working with students. I believe that every child is unique and my job is to support them in maximizing their potential in learning.

Let me share a little bit about myself. I like hiking, painting, photography, and spending time with family and friends in my spare time. Mountain Tamalpais is my favorite hiking place, and Claude Monet is my favorite painter. I am a dog lover and a coffee drinker.
I am excited to join the CIS community and work with your children. I can be reached at jiangh@sfusd.edu or talk to me in person after school. Thank you!

Teresa Chow - 5th Grade Teacher

Hello, my name is Teresa Chow. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Hong Kong.  I completed my undergraduate studies in Business Marketing and got my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in California State University, Pomona.  Several years ago, I received my master degree in education at Concordia University, Irvine. I call San Francisco my home since November 2017.  Prior to moving here and joining CIS, I have taught 4th and 5th grades in the greater Los Angeles area for 17 years.  I have many wonderful memories of doing different projects with my students and also bringing my gifted and talented students to participate in varies Los Angeles County level competitions. I truly enjoy teaching and nurturing young lives. It is such a joy to see children get that sparkles of learning and becoming more mature throughout the years. I am excited in taking on the new challenges in teaching the children and partnering with their parents at Chinese Immersion School.

When I am not teaching, I like to take photographs, painting, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to getting to know both you and your child as we learn and grow together throughout the year!  Please feel free to contact me at anytime through email or in person.
