5th Grade

Lydia Tang, 5TH GRADE TEACHER

Dear Families,

One of my favorite things about teaching, is being able to support students into becoming brave, reflective, collaborative, and open-minded individuals. Through my work as a teacher, I aim to help students grow academically, and guide them into becoming thoughtful and kind towards the world. The life of a teacher is a grand adventure, and I am very excited teach many more students over the years to come.
While I do love to teach, I must say, I also love to eat! Food and happiness work together as one. For me, food is one of those things that warms the soul, no matter what kind of day you are having.

In all, I am happy to be a teacher. Like food, teaching can be sweet, spicy, and sour at times. However, no matter how a day turns out to be, I know that teaching is what I want to do. Teaching is meaningful work, and I hope to give my students many opportunities to grow closer to becoming the best versions of themselves each day.

Hong Xin Jiang, 5th Grade Teacher

Hello, CIS friends and parents. My name is Hong Xin Jiang, and I am a new 5th grade Chinese teacher at Chinese Immersion School. I was born and raised in Guangdong, China, and I immigrated to the United States with my family 11 years ago. I am fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

In 2015, I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and a minor in Education. In addition, I am getting a bilingual teaching credential at San Francisco State University. Before joining the CIS family, I worked closely with different grade levels students from elementary to high school at several different private and public schools in San Francisco. Through my work experience, I have found out that I enjoy working with students. I believe that every child is unique and my job is to support them in maximizing their potential in learning.

Let me share a little bit about myself. I like hiking, painting, photography, and spending time with family and friends in my spare time. Mountain Tamalpais is my favorite hiking place, and Claude Monet is my favorite painter. I am a dog lover and a coffee drinker.
I am excited to join the CIS community and work with your children. I can be reached at jiangh@sfusd.edu or talk to me in person after school. Thank you!

Teresa Chow, 5th Grade Teacher

Hello, my name is Teresa Chow. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Hong Kong.  I completed my undergraduate studies in Business Marketing and got my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in California State University, Pomona.  Several years ago, I received my master degree in education at Concordia University, Irvine. I call San Francisco my home since November 2017.  Prior to moving here and joining CIS, I have taught 4th and 5th grades in the greater Los Angeles area for 17 years.  I have many wonderful memories of doing different projects with my students and also bringing my gifted and talented students to participate in varies Los Angeles County level competitions. I truly enjoy teaching and nurturing young lives. It is such a joy to see children get that sparkles of learning and becoming more mature throughout the years. I am excited in taking on the new challenges in teaching the children and partnering with their parents at Chinese Immersion School.

When I am not teaching, I like to take photographs, painting, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to getting to know both you and your child as we learn and grow together throughout the year!  Please feel free to contact me at anytime through email or in person.
